Narrative: Troy University is in compliance with this Comprehensive Standard. Mission Statement The Troy University mission statement is developed by a process involving stakeholders of the University and is formally reviewed and approved by the Board of Trustees. The current mission statement is: Troy University is a public institution comprised of a network of campuses throughout Alabama and worldwide. International in scope, Troy University provides a variety of educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels for a diverse student body in traditional, nontraditional, and emerging electronic formats. Academic programs are supported by a variety of student services which provide the welfare of the individual student. Troy University’s dedicated faculty and staff promote discovery and exploration of knowledge and its application to life-long success through effective teaching, service, creative partnerships, scholarship and research.
Current and Comprehensive The University’s mission statement was adopted in April 2004 as the initial step in implementing the 2005-2010 strategic planning cycle. The current mission statement guides the strategic planning and operations for the entire University on all campuses and locations. Accurately Guides the Institution's Operations The mission statement provides the guiding principles for all significant University decision making. Evidence of the how the mission statement guides the University’s operations can be found in the Strategic Plan as well as in Board of Trustee minutes, Academic Steering Committee agendas, actions of Senior Vice Chancellor advisory committees, and in the University budget. Periodically Reviewed and Updated The mission is reviewed on a recurring basis related to the development and implementation of the University’s five-year planning cycle. The next formal review of the University’s mission statement will be in advance of the adoption of the University’s 2010-2015 strategic plan. Approved by the Governing Board The University’s mission statement is developed by a process involving representatives of the University and is formally reviewed and approved by the Board of Trustees. The current mission statement was approved by the Board of Trustees in April, 2004 in anticipation of the merger of separately accredited campuses in 2005. Communicated to the Institution's Constituencies The mission statement may also be found in a variety of University sources, both print and electronic. These sources include the graduate and undergraduate catalogs, the Faculty Handbook, and the ePolicy Manual, all located on the Troy University Web site. In addition, the mission statement has its own Web page linked from the University's main page. Conclusion Troy University is in compliance with this Comprehensive Standard.
